In a lawsuit seeking access to her office’s correspondence with Special Counsel Jack Smith and the House January 6 Committee, a judge in Georgia decided in favor of Judicial Watch, a conservative watchdog group. As a result, the district attorney for Fulton County, Fani Willis, is now facing legal problems.

As a result of Willis’s office’s failure to answer to Judicial Watch’s request for open records in a timely manner, Judge Robert McBurney issued a default judgment against her. As a result of the ruling, Willis is required to comply with the open records rules of Georgia and deliver the materials that have been requested within five business days. Given the nature of this legal issue, Willis is under close scrutiny as her office works to ensure compliance with the decision made by the court.
