Derek was in a state of utter desperation to locate his daughter, Amber, who had vanished a week prior. Despite the efforts of the police, it appeared that she had disappeared. Derek’s anxiety was so overwhelming that he was unable to sleep. The officer stated, “As soon as we know something, we will inform you immediately,” while they were at the police station; however, there were no fresh leads to report.
During his journey back home, Derek came across a homeless woman who was holding Amber’s backpack. “Where did you get this?” he asked her as he approached her. The response that she gave was, “I discovered it at the bus station; it was left behind by a teenage girl.” A folded piece of paper with an address that was labeled “Hostess Family” was discovered by Derek that was contained within the backpack. There was no delay in his arrival at the location.
A woman who was standing at the entrance confirmed that Amber had never arrived when she arrived. Derek, who was experiencing a sense of disorientation, made the decision to go back home. He found his ex-wife, Miranda, in a coffee shop as he was driving. Derek approached Miranda because he had a bad feeling that Amber might have come to see her. At first, she denied any knowledge of the situation; but, when Derek discovered Amber’s inhaler in her bag, she admitted to knowing everything.
Amber was able to overhear their exchange, and following her out of the room, Derek pursued her. They were able to make amends after he discovered her sobbing on a bench. “I’m so sorry, Dad,” I said. I apologize for causing you to feel anxious,” Amber added. Immediately after giving her a bear embrace, Derek responded, “It’s okay. Simply put, you desired to meet your mother. However, you will be sent home for a period of two weeks,” he said, attempting to lighten the situation. With a smile, Amber smiled, feeling loved and safe once more.
