The woman brought 23 family members to their blind date, which made her attempt to test her partner’s generosity fail miserably. She tried this out of the ordinary approach to see whether her date would be open to sharing, but the result was not what she had anticipated.

Though bold, the woman’s idea proved to be ill-considered. Her date, Mr. Lui, had wanted to make an impression on Miss Zhang by asking her and her family to a meal at one of his favorite eateries. He was shocked, therefore, to see not just her but her entire 23-person extended family as well. Mr. Lui balked at the thought of footing the bill for such a large gathering, understandably, which led to an embarrassing position.

According to the local newspaper Taizhou Evening News, the incident happened in a restaurant in the province of Zhejiang in eastern China. The woman felt driven to evaluate Mr. Lui’s kindness and support for her family, despite her dubious motivations. Still, considering that it was a blind date, her execution of this plan was inadequate.

As the lunch progressed, it became evident that Mr. Lui disagreed with the woman’s attempt at being giving. Instead of accepting the bill with grace, he fled without warning, leaving the woman to bear the consequences on her own. The dismal outcome of her generosity test was that she was now solely responsible for the enormous amount of 20,000 yuan, or $3,100.

Zhang, however, didn’t stop there. Disappointed with the blind date’s result, the partner went ahead and filed a lawsuit against Mr. Liu. The court determined that Mr. Liu was only needed to pay a 1400 yuan bill.

In retrospect, the woman’s attempt to assess her date’s generosity turned out to be costly as well as ineffectual. Her plan to assess Mr. Lui’s character ultimately proved to be a disastrous failure, even with the best of intentions. This narrative should serve as a cautionary tale about the need of open communication and honesty in relationships as opposed to rigorous character assessments.
