The public image of Charles and Diana remained constant. But the couple’s romance ended soon.
Shameful Tampongate scandal
They divorced in 1992 but kept their royal duties. Their divorce was completed in August 1996, four years later.
Charles and Camilla’s relationship was public by then. The December 1989 incident confirmed their relationship.
Just months after Charles and Diana parted, the press revealed a whole phone conversation between the future King and Camilla.
They talk sexually on the phone. The Diana Chronicles says the recordist kept it for years.
Hearing him say “live inside her trousers” was frightening and improper because the matter involved the future monarch. After the transcript was revealed, Elizabeth the Queen: The Life of a Modern March author Sally Bedel Smith states a poll was released.
Sixty-eight percent believed then-Prince Charles harmed his reputation; 42% said William should succeed Elizabeth.
Camilla was criticized by the public and Royal Family.
Naturally, Camilla was disliked in Britain. She was also unpopular with Elizabeth. In 2018, investigative author and journalist Tom Bower claimed Charles approached Camilla because the queen first avoided her.
Camilla feared leaving home.
Royal analyst Angela Levin, author of Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall: A Royal Survivor, said Camilla faced “torrents” of venom.
Levin told OK! that the queen had to stay home to avoid retaliation. The analyst says Camilla was afraid to shop outside the house. Her buddies conducted her errands.
Known as the world’s meanest woman, she made it impossible. Levin claimed being dubbed a ‘rottweiler’ must have shocked her.
Charles reportedly recruited Camilla two full-time security guards. Charles no longer paid for security after they married in 2005 since she qualified for government-funded security.
I don’t think Charles realized how terrible it was for her, Levin said. He was often on engagements and working hard for the Kingdom and Commonwealth, whereas Camilla didn’t have security because she wasn’t Royal. Charles realized and paid for her safety.”
Camilla was fortunate to attain popularity. Levin believes she “must still bear the scars of it all.”
Levin added, “She still gets nervous about things.” “She can never be sure how people will react to her,” royal analyst and author remarked. “A few harsh people still think she’s the wrong woman for him.”
I doubt she will ever be loved.
The public regards Camilla differently now. Luana Ribeira called the queen’s performance a “PR miracle,” but she hasn’t won hearts.
“I’m not sure Queen Camilla will ever fully win over the hearts of the people,” Ribeira told GB News. Queen Camilla’s presence is a PR miracle given the British public’s 1990s animosity.
She continued, “Queen Camilla is a straight-talking, no-nonsense person whose name will never make people cry. She may never be loved by the British public, but they respect her nevertheless.”
Ribeira advised Queen Camilla to be “exactly as she is” to win over people.
Despite being Britain’s most hated woman, Queen Camilla has been a loyal partner.
She has shown that she won’t go and will do her job despite others’ opinions. Her redemption depends on this ‘keep calm and carry on’ attitude.”
Queen Camilla’s husband and most of the Royal Family backed her tough ascent to the top. Annabel Elliot always upheld her.
Both Camilla and Annabel are Sussex natives. The Express dubbed them “perfect” and inseparable. They attended the same schools and Pony Club events as kids. They became party buddies with age.

For nearly 30 years, Anabel has owned Dorset’s Annabel Elliot Interior Design and Antiques. She was named the ninth most influential UK female interior designer in 2014.
Charles and Annabel worked together. She worked on Wales’ Llwywormwood when Charles bought it in 2006.
The Telegraph reported that Annabel Elliot made $380,000 from 2005 to 2008. Charles objected with politicians’ cronyism tag.
No tender. The Prince likes her work and knows her. A Clarence House representative called Annabel Elliot an established interior designer.
Queen Camilla and the Royal Family travel frequently to meet the public and learn about current events. Despite having multiple assistants and advisers, Annabel advises Camilla on everything.
When Charles was crowned at Westminster Abbey, Annabel backed her sister, who became Queen.
