After Beyoncé made history by becoming the first Black woman to top Billboard’s country music chart, music icon Dolly Parton has thrown her support behind her.
As part of her surprise album announcement at this year’s Super Bowl, 42-year-old Beyoncé unveiled the single “Texas Hold ‘Em” accompanied 16 Carriages.
With this feat, she joined Taylor Swift in 2021 as the only solo female artists to have a song go straight to the top of the country music chart.
Dolly Parton, arguably the biggest icon to ever grace the genre, has zero problem with it, while some have reacted negatively to the Halo superstar’s success. One radio station refused to play her son because they “are a country music station,” and actor John Schneider told her to stay out of the genre, comparing her to a dog urinating on a tree.
Dolly Parton expressed her happiness that Beyoncé has released a country album in an emotional Instagram post. You should be proud of your number one single on Billboard Hot Country. Awaiting the complete album with bated breath!
Beyoncé’s upcoming album, Renaissance: Act II, is set to focus on country music, with approximately 76 million Americans enjoying the genre weekly. Critics argue that the genre should be left alone, but Beyoncé’s fan base defends her decision to return to her roots.
Some fans argue that the industry needs to seize control over every aspect of country music, while others believe that the genre was created by black people. However, Beyoncé is expected to take these criticisms with a pinch of salt, as she has the backing of Dolly Parton, the Queen of Country.
