Byrne became a familiar voice to millions of music fans during the early 1980s, particularly through Naked Eyes’ unforgettable hit Always Something There to Remind Me.

The song, originally written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David, became a major success for the duo, reaching No. 8 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1983.

Together with keyboardist Rob Fisher, Byrne formed Naked Eyes in 1982. The pair had previously played in the band Neon, which also included future Tears for Fears musicians Roland Orzabal and Curt Smith.

Their debut album brought widespread recognition, producing memorable songs including Promises, Promises, which reached No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, and When the Lights Go Out.

But Byrne’s musical contributions extended beyond Naked Eyes.

In 1985, he provided backing vocals for Stevie Wonder’s hit Part-Time Lover, adding another notable achievement to his career.

Following Fisher’s death in 1999, Byrne continued recording and performing, keeping the music of Naked Eyes alive for longtime fans and new audiences.

He released solo material and additional Naked Eyes recordings, including Disguise the Limit in 2021.

Later reports identified an acute hemorrhagic stroke as Byrne’s cause of death, according to his death certificate.

He is survived by his three children, Merlin, Dylan and Chloe, his siblings, and his former wife, Elena.

Although Pete Byrne is gone, his voice remains part of the soundtrack of the 1980s—especially through the timeless songs that helped define an unforgettable era of pop music.
