• 1 lb (454 g) ground beef, preferably 85–90% lean

  • ½ cup finely chopped onion

  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese

  • ¾ cup prepared biscuit-style baking mix

  • 3 large eggs

  • 1½ cups milk

  • Salt and black pepper, optional

Despite the popular “5-ingredient” title, this version uses six main ingredients.

Instructions

1. Brown the beef

Preheat the oven to 200°C (400°F). Grease a 9-inch (23 cm) pie dish. Brown the ground beef in a skillet for 6–8 minutes, add the onion, and cook for another 3–4 minutes. Drain excess fat and season.

2. Assemble the filling

Spread the cooked beef and onion evenly across the baking dish. Sprinkle the cheddar over the top.

3. Prepare the batter

Whisk the eggs and milk together. Add the baking mix and whisk until pourable and mostly smooth. Pour evenly over the beef and cheese.

4. Bake and serve

Bake for 25–35 minutes, until golden and set in the center (71°C internal temperature). Rest for 5–10 minutes before cutting into wedges.

Serving suggestions

Serve with dill pickles, ketchup, mustard, or burger sauce to bring out the cheeseburger flavor. A fresh green salad, roasted broccoli, or potato wedges makes an excellent side.

Storage and reheating

Refrigerate leftovers within two hours and keep for 3–4 days. Reheat until thoroughly hot, ideally 74°C in the center. Individual portions can also be frozen for up to about two months for best quality.

The charm of Impossible Cheeseburger Pie is its simplicity: ordinary pantry ingredients become a warm, satisfying family dinner with minimal effort and cleanup.
