The family continued by describing just how deeply Fiona was loved by those closest to her.
“She was adored by her sisters and she was deeply loved by her parents. In fact, she was the light of our lives. Her passing is devastating for our entire family and we ask for prayers and privacy at this time.”
Their statement concluded with a message encouraging anyone struggling with their mental health to seek help.
“If you or someone you know is struggling with mental health, please reach out to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline by calling or texting 988.”
No cause of Fiona’s death has been publicly revealed.
Chad, the younger brother of actor Rob Lowe, and Kim are also parents to daughters Mabel and Nixie.
According to Page Six, parents at Fiona’s school were informed of her death in an email sent by the principal on Tuesday morning.
“It is with deep sadness that I am calling you to advise you of the death of one of our students.”
The message continued:
“Our sincere condolences go out to the student’s family, friends and teachers. Counselors are available to meet with students and staff who may need emotional support during this difficult time.”
Only months earlier, Chad had shared a touching birthday tribute to Fiona on Instagram as she officially entered her teenage years.
Alongside a photograph showing his daughter smiling in cowboy boots, the actor wrote:
“Celebrating Fiona officially becoming a teen today!! Keep dancing through life FiBear! Love you soooo much!!”
The heartbreaking news comes after the Lowe family had already endured an extremely difficult period.
Their home was affected by the devastating Palisades fire, and in February 2025, Chad shared photographs showing his three daughters returning to what remained of the family property.
One particularly emotional image showed the sisters standing together with their arms wrapped around one another.
Reflecting on how his daughters had responded to the experience, Chad wrote:
“The way they’ve handled this whole devastating experience is nothing short of remarkable.”
He continued:
“I am in awe of their spirit and resilience. Helping them navigate these tough times is my sole purpose. Being their dad is my life’s greatest joy and privilege.”
Fatherhood had long been something Chad spoke about with enormous pride.
During an appearance on the Still Here Hollywood podcast in August 2024, he opened up about how raising three daughters had changed the way he viewed women’s experiences and equality.
“It takes what I’ve known intellectually about women and all of equality and the glass ceiling that’s there, and how it’s a misogynistic world in a lot of ways, and it’s put it in my heart because I have three daughters.”
He added:
“So I look at the world, really, from their perspective.”
Despite acknowledging the challenges women continue to face, Chad said he also saw reasons for optimism.
“So I see how we’re really becoming conscious of the role of women.”
Chad has been married to Kim Painter since August 2010. He was previously married to actress Hilary Swank, with the former couple separating in 2006 after several years of marriage.
Fiona’s death has left the Lowe family facing a devastating loss, just months after Chad publicly described being a father as the greatest joy and privilege of his life.
The family has asked for prayers and privacy as they mourn their beloved daughter.
