Dispatch recordings show that calls went out to first responders at approximately 9:35 a.m. on September 20, describing both a cardiac arrest and an overdose at the property. Police said they found Presley unresponsive when they arrived.
Life-saving measures were performed, but paramedics pronounced him dead about ten minutes later, around 9:45 a.m. He was 27 years old.
Inside the Treatment Facility
The residence has been identified as Resolutions Living, a co-ed operation founded and owned by Dr. Reza Nabavi, who also serves as clinical director. The facility describes itself as a structured recovery residence for people dealing with substance abuse, mental-health conditions, trauma and co-occurring disorders.
Its stated program includes shared meals, outings, life-skills training and accountability-focused activities, alongside amenities such as a gym, movie theater and 24/7 on-site staff. Several other residents were reportedly staying at the property at the time, though Presley was said to be housed in a separate building on the grounds.
The Sober Coach and Ongoing Investigation
According to people with direct knowledge of the situation, Presley had a sober coach who traveled with him and offered support seven days a week during the final months of his life. Whether that person was physically with him at the moment of the emergency, or had last checked in with him the night before, has not been established.
Santa Monica Police detectives are treating the death as a suspected overdose. Investigators have interviewed other residents who were living at the facility and are examining whether any substances involved were prescribed to Presley or may have come from elsewhere.
An autopsy has been completed, but the official cause and manner of death remain deferred pending toxicology results. Authorities have said the investigation is still in its early stages.
Questions About a Doctor’s Prescriptions
Sources described as people who had been in regular contact with Presley told TMZ that a doctor had been prescribing him ketamine despite knowing his history of addiction, including previous problems with the drug specifically. The physician has not been publicly identified.
Those same sources said Presley’s close friends are angry that the prescriptions continued and believe the unnamed doctor should face prosecution. Presley reportedly told friends about his struggles with ketamine before his death, a disclosure now drawing renewed scrutiny to the care he was receiving.
Presley had previously spoken about a broader history of substance use, including alcohol, opioids, painkillers and benzodiazepines such as Xanax. He was arrested for driving under the influence in December 2018, when he was 19.
He began modeling as a teenager and was signed with IMG Models, following his mother into the industry alongside his younger sister, Kaia Gerber. In recent years he had also become known as a mental-health advocate, speaking publicly about his own difficulties.
