A friend reportedly discovered Panettiere unresponsive and contacted 911 at approximately 1:51 p.m. Emergency responders were told she was in cardiac arrest, according to reports surrounding the dispatch audio.
CPR and advanced lifesaving measures were performed, but Panettiere could not be revived. She was pronounced dead at 2:32 p.m.

The Greenville Police Department said the case was being investigated together with the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.
Police also confirmed that an acquaintance of Panettiere placed the emergency call.
Dispatch Audio Included Reference to Possible Overdose
The most significant new detail comes from the emergency communications surrounding the response.
Reports based on the dispatch audio indicate that first responders received information involving both “cardiac arrest” and a possible “overdose.”
Page Six reported that Narcan — a medication used in suspected opioid overdoses — was found at the scene, while epinephrine was reportedly used during efforts to resuscitate Panettiere.
Those details may help explain why an overdose was mentioned during the emergency response, but they should not be interpreted as proof of what caused Panettiere’s death.
Narcan can be administered when an opioid overdose is suspected before responders know exactly what has happened. The final determination will depend on the coroner’s investigation and additional testing.
Autopsy Completed, but Cause of Death Remains Pending
The Greenville County Coroner’s Office confirmed Monday that an autopsy had been completed.
Coroner Mike Ellis said there were no visible injuries or signs of trauma that appeared to have contributed to Panettiere’s death. However, her official cause and manner of death remained pending further testing.
That finding is consistent with the police department’s preliminary statement that investigators had discovered no evidence suggesting foul play or suspicious circumstances.
Until toxicology and other testing are completed, reports describing Panettiere’s death definitively as an overdose remain premature.
Panettiere Had Spoken Openly About Addiction and Recovery
The reference to a possible overdose has also brought renewed attention to Panettiere’s past discussions about addiction.

She was found unresponsive, emergency crews were called for a reported cardiac arrest, and dispatch communications reportedly contained a reference to a possible overdose. Responders attempted to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
An autopsy has since found no trauma believed to have contributed to her death, and investigators have found no preliminary signs of foul play.
The most important question — what actually caused Hayden Panettiere’s death — remains officially unanswered.
