The last pictures of this Oscar-nominated heartthrob actor breaks our hearts

Ryan O’Neal, the Oscar-nominated actor who became one of Hollywood’s biggest stars through films such as Love Story and Barry Lyndon, spent his final years battling serious health problems before his death on December 8, 2023. He was 82 years old. Although he had previously been diagnosed with both leukemia and prostate cancer, his death was ultimately attributed to congestive heart failure.

In the years leading up to his passing, O’Neal’s declining health became increasingly visible. The actor, once known for his charm and leading-man appeal, appeared noticeably frail as he continued receiving treatment for his illnesses. Yet even as Hollywood mourned the loss of one of its most recognizable stars, his funeral drew attention for another reason—several members of his own family were absent.

O’Neal’s youngest son, Redmond James Fawcett O’Neal, whom he shared with longtime partner Farrah Fawcett, was unable to attend the funeral because he was being held in a California state psychiatric hospital. Redmond has struggled for years with addiction and serious mental health conditions, including bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and antisocial personality disorder. His legal and medical challenges have kept him in treatment for much of the past decade.

Ryan had promised Farrah before her death in 2009 that he would look after their son. However, reports indicate that father and son became estranged over the years, and Redmond reportedly refused to visit his father during parts of his cancer treatment.

The absence of Redmond was understandable to many, but the funeral also highlighted longstanding family divisions. Ryan’s eldest son, Griffin O’Neal, later revealed that he had not been invited to the memorial service.

Griffin, the son of Ryan’s first wife, actress Joanna Moore, said he traveled roughly 2,000 miles from Texas hoping to pay his respects, only to discover he had not been included in the arrangements. According to Griffin, he and his father had not spoken for 17 years following a violent confrontation at Ryan’s Malibu home in 2007 that permanently damaged their relationship.

Ryan’s daughter, Academy Award-winning actress Tatum O’Neal, also did not attend the small memorial service, according to published reports. However, unlike some of the family’s other relationships, she and her father had reconciled after decades of estrangement.

The pair reconnected in the late 2000s after spending nearly 20 years apart. Following Tatum’s own health struggles, including a stroke after a drug overdose in 2020, the two shared several emotional reunions, including celebrating Ryan’s birthday together in 2023.

After his death, Tatum released a heartfelt statement.

“He meant the world to me. I loved him very much and know he loved me too. I’ll miss him forever and I feel very lucky that we ended on such good terms.” Continue Reading ⬇️
