Man amputates body parts – his ‘Black Alien’ modifications cost him job

Kelly WhitewoodBy Kelly WhitewoodJuly 31, 20266 Mins Read

His body is covered almost entirely in dark tattoos, including his face and eyes. He has undergone skull and subdermal implants, removed parts of his ears and nose, split his tongue, sharpened and colored his teeth, and had fingers amputated from one hand.

These dramatic procedures earned him the nickname “Black Alien,” but Loffredo has repeatedly insisted that his transformation was never intended simply to shock strangers or attract attention.

He describes it as an intensely personal journey connected to a lifelong fascination with extraterrestrial life.

“The extraterrestrial world is something that fascinates me,” he explained in an interview with the Spanish newspaper El Periódico. “It is something that really captivates me.”

To Loffredo, the procedures are not acts of mutilation.

They represent what he calls an evolution.

“For me, this isn’t mutilation,” he said. “For me, it’s evolution. It’s my evolution.”

He understands that many people struggle to accept his explanation.

Strangers frequently tell him that he needs psychiatric treatment or suggest that something must be wrong with him. Loffredo rejects those assumptions, arguing that people judge his appearance without trying to understand the thoughts and emotions behind it.

“I don’t need a psychiatrist,” he said. “It’s something very personal. People can’t really understand me. It’s very delicate and very deep.”

For him, the transformation is not about becoming a different person.

It is about making his physical appearance match the identity he feels inside.

Although Loffredo has already undergone modifications that most people would consider unimaginable, he has publicly discussed going even further.

Among the most controversial ideas he has considered is the amputation of a healthy leg, which could eventually be replaced with a prosthetic or biomechanical limb.

He acknowledged that such a procedure would be an enormous decision.

“It’s something really hard because I have a healthy leg, and an amputation is something big,” he said.

Many conventional medical professionals would refuse to remove a healthy body part for aesthetic reasons. As a result, Loffredo has reportedly traveled abroad for some procedures that are illegal, restricted, or considered medically unethical in other countries.

He has described the world of extreme body modification as highly private and difficult to access.

“If I go to a doctor at a hospital and tell him I want to cut off my fingers, he’s going to tell me I’m crazy and send me to a psychiatric hospital,” he said.

But Loffredo views the procedures differently.

“For me, it’s something aesthetic,” he explained. “In the end, I feel better.”

Reports concerning the future of his “Black Alien Project” have varied over the years. In late 2023, he reportedly said the project had lost its meaning and suggested that he was stepping away from further extreme modifications. Later appearances and reports, however, indicated that his physical transformation and artistic experimentation had not necessarily ended.

Regardless of how far he ultimately goes, Loffredo has acknowledged that the journey has come with a darker side.

One of the most difficult consequences has been finding regular employment.

Before beginning his transformation in his mid-twenties, he reportedly worked as a nightclub security guard. As his appearance became more extreme, ordinary employment opportunities became increasingly difficult to obtain.

“I can’t find a job,” he said during an appearance on the Club 113 podcast.

He explained that body modification can produce positive feelings because it allows someone to feel more authentic, but those considering major physical changes must also understand the social consequences.

“There’s lots of negative stuff,” he said. “It can be positive because you feel better, but you have to know there’s also a dark side.”

According to Loffredo, every day brings encounters with people who stare, judge, or refuse to understand him.

“It’s a fight every day because every day you find new people who don’t understand,” he said. “They want to judge.”

He argues that appearance alone does not reveal a person’s character, intentions, or abilities.

“You can’t judge someone,” he said. “No one knows what’s inside someone’s head or why they’re doing that. You need to talk with that person.”

Body modification is far from a modern invention.

For thousands of years, cultures around the world have used tattoos, piercings, scarification, stretching, and other physical alterations to represent identity, social status, spirituality, adulthood, beauty, or membership within a community.

In modern society, researchers often connect body modification with personal autonomy, artistic expression, identity, and the desire to regain control over one’s body.

For some people, the body becomes a living canvas through which they communicate experiences that cannot easily be expressed in words.

Academic discussions of body modification have also explored its relationship with healing, trauma, belonging, empowerment, and self-definition.

The physical experience itself may play a role as well. Painful procedures can trigger the release of endorphins, the body’s natural chemicals associated with pain relief and feelings of well-being.

Still, Loffredo’s choices remain far beyond conventional tattoos or piercings.

Removing healthy body parts creates permanent physical limitations and serious medical risks. Such procedures cannot simply be reversed if a person later changes their mind.

That reality is one reason his transformation continues to inspire intense reactions.

Some people view him as an artist exercising complete control over his own body.

Others believe the procedures have crossed a dangerous line.

Many are fascinated, while others feel uncomfortable or frightened by his appearance.

Loffredo knows that universal acceptance is unlikely.

Yet he maintains that his transformation was never created to satisfy other people.

After years of tattoos, implants, surgeries, and amputations, he says he has moved closer to the person he always imagined himself becoming.

The cost has included judgment, reduced employment opportunities, physical challenges, and social isolation.

Even so, he has continued to defend his right to define his own identity.

To the world, he may be the “Black Alien.”

To Loffredo, however, the person strangers see is not a disguise.

It is the version of himself that finally feels real.
