‘I have a suite in his head’: Barack Obama shares brutal verdict on Trump’s “obsession” with him

Trump has referenced Obama for well over a decade, frequently using his full name, “Barack Hussein Obama,” during public appearances and campaign events. His criticism has covered everything from policy decisions to infrastructure projects, making Obama a recurring target even years after he left the White House.

Most recently, the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool became another point of contention. When reporters questioned Trump about the project’s timeline and cost, he shifted responsibility to Obama.

“Barack Hussein Obama. Have you ever heard of him?” Trump said while speaking to reporters.

Trump went on to claim that Obama had spent more than $100 million over two years attempting to repair the reflecting pool, adding that the project “never even opened.” However, reports from The Associated Press state that the renovation completed during Obama’s administration cost approximately $34 million and concluded in 2012.

Trump has also faced criticism over content shared through his social media accounts. Earlier this year, one post drew widespread backlash after it featured a racist video depicting Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle Obama as apes.

Despite years of criticism, Obama has generally avoided responding directly to Trump. That changed during a recent appearance on the All the Smoke podcast, hosted by former NBA player Matt Barnes.

During the conversation, Barnes remarked that Trump appeared to be “very fascinated” with Obama and his family, praising the former president for responding to years of negativity “with class.” He then asked whether Obama had ever felt like confronting Trump more directly.

    Obama responded with humor.

“The thing about it is… Look, you’ve got to ask him what it is,” Obama said.

When Barnes suggested the word “obsession,” Obama agreed.

“The obsession,” he replied. “I obviously have a room in his head, a suite in his head.”

Continuing the joke, Obama suggested he was living “rent-free” in Trump’s mind, adding that the president’s repeated references to him likely reveal more about Trump than about any political disagreement.

Obama also reflected on his own time in office, explaining that he never spent much time thinking about former President George W. Bush after taking office.

“They’re gone,” Obama said while referring to previous presidents. “I’ve got work to do.”

He continued by questioning why a sitting president would remain so focused on someone who had already left office.

“The idea that I’d be worrying about somebody who came before and me trying to measure like, ‘what’s he done today?’ Constantly worrying about that is a strange thing to me. It shows me somebody who is not focused on the American people and the job they’re supposed to do.”

Obama’s remarks quickly generated widespread discussion online, with supporters and critics alike weighing in on his comments. While the political rivalry between the two former presidents continues to attract attention, Obama’s latest response suggests he views Trump’s repeated references less as political attacks and more as evidence of an enduring fixation.

As both men remain influential figures in American politics, their exchanges continue to spark debate and dominate headlines, underscoring how their long-running rivalry still resonates years after they each served in the Oval Office.
