Authorities have since launched an investigation into the devastating incident, which occurred at the Ponte do Esqueleto, also known as Skeleton Bridge.
In the hours before the accident, Maria Eduarda documented her day on social media, sharing cheerful photos from the site where the activity was taking place.
She posted pictures of the identification bracelets she had received and even shared images alongside representatives connected to the company organizing the event.
One caption she posted has now gone viral for tragic reasons.
Alongside a photograph of a company banner, she wrote:
“Who was the crazy person who let me jump off a bridge?”
At the time, it appeared to be nothing more than a playful joke from an excited young woman preparing for an adrenaline-filled experience.
Now, those words have become a haunting reminder of how quickly life can change.
According to reports, Maria Eduarda was participating in an adventure activity organized by a private company when disaster struck.
Videos circulating online reportedly show her being carried toward the edge of the bridge by two staff members in a Superman-style position before the jump.
But something went terribly wrong.
Witnesses and information provided to Brazilian Military Police suggest that a critical safety rope may not have been attached to her harness before she was released.
Moments after she was launched from the bridge, panic erupted.
Voices could reportedly be heard shouting in desperation.
“The rope, people, the rope.”
Maria Eduarda then fell more than 131 feet (40 meters).
Emergency responders, including firefighters and paramedics, rushed to the scene, but she was pronounced dead.
The tragedy also devastated those closest to her.
Reports indicate her fiancé was present during the event and required medical attention after learning of her death.
Authorities have since opened a criminal investigation.
According to reports, six people were detained following the accident as investigators work to determine exactly what happened and whether safety procedures were ignored.
Local officials have also expressed concern about the area where the activity took place.
Limeira Mayor Murilo Félix announced plans to file a complaint with federal authorities, citing concerns about safety conditions, lack of access control, and insufficient protective measures.
Investigators are now trying to establish who was responsible for ensuring all safety protocols were followed before participants were allowed to jump.
