Chapter 10: The Old Blue Minivan
Logan finally realized this was not about the vehicle.
It was about what his actions had revealed.
His grandmother held up the keys to the old van.
“You want to live here? Drive this.”
He stared at the keys like they were punishment carved into metal.
“You’ll take the baby to appointments,” she continued. “Install the car seat. Clean the spit-up. Handle diaper leaks. Learn what responsibility actually looks like.”
Logan’s jaw tightened.
“And if I don’t?”
Her answer came instantly.
“Then pack your things and leave.”
Silence.
Finally, he took the keys.
Hours later, I watched him standing beside the old minivan while his beloved car disappeared on the back of a flatbed.
He looked devastated.
But not nearly as devastated as I had felt watching him drive away from the hospital.
That difference told me everything.
