She spent her childhood in the Mexican city of Coatzacoalcos with her brother and parents. Her mom wanted to be an opera singer, while her dad was an oil business executive.
The star’s mother devoted herself to assisting those who wished to pursue music education but lacked the financial resources to do so, using the money that her husband had left her. The couple established a local school where the students were exposed to opera and had access to excellent programs, and the wife generously supported numerous music scholarships.
The actress claims that some of the former students even went on to become professional singers after receiving instruction from teachers who were flown in from Mexico.
The actress’s mother had an intense love of opera and singing; the actress herself recalls feeling ashamed when her mother would sing whenever she had the chance. She had shared anecdotes of her mom’s public singing performances in an interview where she was promoting her debut picture at the time.
“[…] and it wasn’t like cool music, and she was always like vocalizing, you know, and so my friends would come to the house and, sometimes, you know, you’d ask her, ‘Can I go to the movies?’ and she would answer singing, ‘What movies?’ in front of your friends[…],” according to her.
As a teenager, she thought her mom’s activities were totally lame, but she did say that she grew to love them as an adult. She recalled her childhood home as a tight-knit community where she and her brother spent a lot of time playing outside, close to the water, with their neighbors.
