How well-versed on your neighbor are you? Are you familiar with them enough to ask them over?
What about letting them reside with you?
2013 saw Chris Salvatore move in next door to 85-year-old Norma Cook and her cat Hermes.
They normally greeted each other, but after Salvator introduced himself, they got close rapidly.
In fact, Salvatore, a 31-year-old actor, asked Norma to move in when she was near death and required continual care because they had grown to be such close friends.
Norma’s health rapidly declined after she turned 89. Salvatore learned during a stay in the hospital that Cook wouldn’t be permitted to return home without continued care. She had no family nearby or any children of her own, so she was at a loss.
Online, Salvatore set up a Cook GoFundMe campaign. Before realizing he would need to take more action, the 31-year-old and his two closest pals assessed a few caretakers.
He told TODAY that entering a facility was her only alternative option. I simply couldn’t treat someone who is similar to my own grandmother in that way.
Cook was welcomed to relocate to his residence.
Salvatore said on GoFundMe, “I’m so happy I was able to give her this gift of living her last days at home.” “I can’t imagine what it must be like to experience your final days in a hospital alone, without your friends or pets.”
The two ended up being great housemates.
Cook said, “We always monitor the news. “We mostly just talk, drink champagne, and eat peanuts.”
Sadly, on February 15, 2017, Cook passed away. On Instagram, where he routinely shared updates about the pair’s trips, Salvatore broke the terrible news.
Salvatore said of Cook, “She called me the grandson she never had.”
Although Cook didn’t require Salvatore’s help in any manner, he couldn’t bear to watch her spend her final days alone herself in a hospital.
Please spread the word about this post if you concur that Salvatore is a fantastic role model for us all.
