Geraldo Rivera Opens Up About His Relationship with Trump on “The View”
Renowned journalist Geraldo Rivera recently made an appearance on ABC’s “The View,” discussing his long-standing connection with former President Donald Trump. The discussion began with Rivera defending his relationship with Trump, highlighting their decades-long friendship and how they both came up together in New York during the 1970s.
Joy Behar, one of the co-hosts, chimed in to acknowledge that many leftists had relationships with Trump during his New York days. She even attended one of Trump’s weddings. Rivera continued sharing his perspective, revealing that he had appeared on Trump’s TV show, “Celebrity Apprentice,” shortly before Trump’s presidential announcement.
Rivera praised Trump for granting him access to the White House and being nice to him, even though he didn’t vote for him. He considered himself fortunate to have a friend in the White House, even if they didn’t always agree politically.
However, when faced with pushback from the co-hosts, Rivera’s defense of Trump wavered. Behar asked, “What happened to him?” to which Rivera responded that Trump became a “crazy guy” after the 2020 election. Sunny Hostin interjected, claiming that Trump had always been a misogynist and racist, using these accusations to silence Rivera.
The pressure proved effective, and Rivera ultimately conceded that while Trump had been nice to him, he agreed with the accusations of misogyny and racism. His once-strong defense of the former president faded in the face of opposition.
It is worth noting that Geraldo Rivera had recently left Fox News, where he was a regular contributor on “The Five.” His departure was a result of disagreements with the network’s direction following the Trump presidency, as well as a personal feud with Greg Gutfeld, a successful Fox News host.
The “The View” appearance shed light on the complexities of relationships between public figures and how political dynamics can influence those connections. Despite Rivera’s long association with Trump, differing opinions and criticism from the show’s co-hosts led to a change in his stance during the discussion.
