Possible Federal Indictment Looms for Former President Donald Trump
Former U.S. President Donald Trump could be facing yet another significant federal indictment. The ex-president alleged on Tuesday morning that he has received communication from special counsel Jack Smith, informing him of a criminal investigation related to his supposed actions following the 2020 elections and during the January 6 events.
Alleged Investigation and Time Constraints
Through a detailed press release, Trump divulged that he is the focus of a probe by the prosecutor. This prosecutor was appointed by U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland, the chief law enforcement official of President Joe Biden’s administration.

“Jack Smith, the deranged prosecutor from Biden’s Department of Justice, sent a letter informing me that I am the TARGET of the January 6 Grand Jury investigation. He gave me a mere 4 days to report to the Grand Jury, which usually implies an imminent arrest and indictment,” Trump stated.
President Trump’s Assertive Response
Throughout his statement, the former president maintained an unyielding stance. He claimed that the “Department of Injustice” is focusing its attention on President Biden’s “primary political rival” — a figure who, according to recent polls, has outstripped the incumbent. He attributed the latest announcement by Smith to the so-called “witch hunt” that he believes dates back to the 2016 elections.
“THIS WITCH HUNT IS ALL ABOUT ELECTION INTERFERENCE AND THE TOTAL POLITICIZATION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT. It marks a bleak and distressing era for our nation!” declared Trump.
Noteworthy Legal Challenges
On MSNBC, host Joe Scarborough described the impending indictment as “potentially the most significant” against President Trump. The former president is already entangled in separate cases in Manhattan and federal court regarding business records and the management of classified documents. Trump alleges that Smith, who he claims has a track record of executing “political hit jobs” against politicians, may be ready to file nearly 45 additional charges in the latter case.
The Core of the Investigation
Smith’s ongoing inquiry into President Trump’s comments leading up to the January 6 Capitol riots will likely focus on whether Trump incited the rioters to storm the nation’s Capitol. This event resulted in multiple fatalities and led to thousands of prosecutions. In the subsequent year, a congressional investigation examined President Trump’s tweets, which led to his permanent suspension from Twitter. The social media platform claimed that his posts were inciting violence.
