The Life and Legacy of Michael Jackson’s Youngest Son, Bigi Jackson
Michael Jackson, famously known as “The King of Pop,” left an indelible mark on the world as an unforgettable singer, songwriter, dancer, and entertainer. Beyond his career, MJ was also a devoted family man, having three children with two women before his untimely death eleven years ago.
Marriages and Speculations
Throughout Michael Jackson’s life, the tabloids were captivated by his private affairs, marriages, and children. With three children from two different women, there was always speculation surrounding the paternity of MJ’s kids and the identity of their mothers.
Reflecting on Michael’s relationships, it is not surprising that the media sought answers.
The Jackson 5
Michael Jackson first encountered his first wife, Lisa Marie Presley, in 1974 when he was just sixteen years old. Introduced by none other than Elvis Presley himself at a hotel in Las Vegas, Lisa, a devoted fan of the Jackson 5, instantly became enamored with the young singer.
However, it would take eighteen years for the couple to meet again, at a dinner hosted by artist Brett-Livingstone Strong. Their fondness for each other grew, and they began talking on the phone daily. Michael and Lisa shared a unique bond, as both had experienced the challenges of growing up in the spotlight, sheltered from the “real” world.
Despite Lisa being married to actor Danny Keough at the time, she eventually divorced him to marry Michael. The couple exchanged vows in 1994 in the Dominican Republic, and their wedding was dubbed “The Marriage of the Century” by the media.
However, their marriage soon became tumultuous. Lisa Marie refused to have children with Michael, citing his immaturity and an uncertain future together. On the other hand, Michael expressed a strong desire to become a father and even mentioned the possibility of having children with his friend Debbie Rowe.
Michael and Debbie Rowe
Debbie Rowe had a longstanding connection with Michael. They first met in the mid-1980s when she worked as an assistant for Michael’s dermatologist, helping him with his skin condition, vitiligo.
Michael and Debbie’s friendship evolved into something more, and they tied the knot in 1996. They welcomed two children together: Michael Joseph “Prince” Jackson, Jr., in 1997, and Paris Michael Katherine Jackson in 1998.
However, their parenting arrangement was unconventional. Debbie acted more as a surrogate mother, while Michael took on the primary role of raising the children at his Neverland Ranch. Debbie visited her kids sporadically to avoid becoming too attached.
Although their marriage faced challenges, the couple remained friends even after their 1999 divorce, as Michael was granted full custody of their children.
Michael’s Youngest Child
In February 2002, Michael Jackson welcomed his third child, Prince Michael Jackson II. Affectionately known as “Blanket,” the nickname derived from the habit of covering the child’s face with a blanket in public.
According to Michael, the nickname symbolized a blessing, a way of showing love and care. However, the public became concerned when Michael held “Blanket” over a balcony railing in Berlin, prompting accusations of endangering the child’s life. Michael later apologized, stating that he got carried away in the moment.
The mother of Michael’s third child remains unknown. While some speculated that Debbie Rowe was the biological mother, she vehemently denied these claims. Michael himself stated that the baby was conceived through artificial insemination, and he was unaware of the mother’s identity.
In 2015, “Blanket” expressed his desire to be called Bigi, a significant step for him after enduring teasing about his previous nickname.
Bigi’s Life Today
Following his father’s tragic passing in 2009, Bigi was primarily raised by his paternal grandmother, Katherine Jackson, with support from his cousin TJ Jackson.
Currently, Bigi resides in Calabasas, California, in an exclusive gated community alongside celebrity neighbors such as Dr. Dre and John Travolta. He attends Buckley School, a private institution in Sherman Oaks, California, and dedicates time to his studies.
Bigi has shown an interest in martial arts, particularly karate, and enjoys spending time with his numerous cousins. Despite his desire to remain out of the spotlight, he occasionally appears at public events. Notably, he attended his older brother Prince’s graduation from Loyola Marymount University in May 2019.
Additionally, Bigi and Prince Jackson have launched a YouTube channel called “Film Family,” where they review various movies. Although the channel has a modest following at present, with only a few uploaded clips, there may be more content from Bigi in the future.
Inheriting His Father’s Traits
At a glance, it is evident that Bigi shares striking similarities with his late father. From his long black curls to his love for comic books and superheroes, Bigi’s resemblance to Michael is unmistakable. While growing up, Bigi faced the challenges of mourning his father’s loss under the scrutiny of the world’s cameras.
Nevertheless, Bigi appears to be enjoying a fulfilling life, engaging in ordinary teenage activities, which is promising for his well-being and future endeavors.
As we observe Bigi’s journey, let us hope that he finds happiness and fulfillment, regardless of the path he chooses to pursue.
