An Important Lesson on Respect and Care for Elderly Parents
An elderly man of 80 years sat on the sofa in his house, accompanied by his highly educated 45-year-old son. Suddenly, a crow landed on their window, capturing their attention.
A Father’s Question
The father turned to his son and asked, “What is this?” The son replied, “It is a crow.” After a few minutes, the father repeated his question, “What is this?” The son, slightly irritated, responded, “Father, I just told you it’s a crow.” A little while later, the father asked his son once again, “What is this?”
The son’s tone grew more impatient as he rebuffed his father, saying, “It’s a crow, a crow.”
Eventually, the father went to his room and returned with an old, worn-out diary he had kept since his son was born. Opening a page, he asked his son to read it. The page contained the following words:
“Today, my little three-year-old son was sitting with me on the sofa when a crow landed on the window. My son asked me 23 times what it was, and I patiently replied each time that it was a crow. Each time he asked, I lovingly hugged him. I didn’t feel any irritation; instead, I felt affection for my innocent child.”
While the young child had asked the same question 23 times without irritating his father, the son himself had grown annoyed after only four repetitions of the question. The father’s diary served as a reminder of his own patient and loving nature.
A Lesson in Respect and Care
This story imparts an important lesson about treating aging parents with respect and care. As parents grow older, it is crucial not to reject or view them as burdens, but rather to speak to them kindly, be obedient, humble, and show them love.
Consider the sacrifices your parents have made for you throughout your life. From today onwards, proclaim, “I want to see my parents happy forever. They have cared for me since my childhood, showering me with selfless love. They have weathered all hardships and challenges to shape me into the person I am today. ”
Offer a prayer to express your commitment: “I will serve my elderly parents in the best way possible. I will always speak kind and loving words to them, regardless of how they behave.”
