Once upon a time, there was a farmer who stood out among his contemporaries due to the superiority of the maize he regularly produced.
Because he consistently had the most successful corn crop, the award was appropriately given his name in honor of this accomplishment.
Because of their interaction, a reporter from the local newspaper once had a conversation with him and learned some wonderful information regarding the way in which he grew it as a consequence of their interview.
The writer came to the conclusion that the farmer had shared some seed grain with his friends and neighbors so that they might plant it in their own plots.
The reporter said, “How can you afford to share your best seed corn with your neighbors when they enter corn into competition with yours each year?”
“Why, sir,” the farmer questioned, “didn’t you know?” Wind is the agent that is responsible for the gathering of pollen from mature corn and the transportation of that pollen from one field to another. This pollen is then used to pollinate subsequent generations of corn. Because of cross-pollination, the quality of my own corn will gradually deteriorate if my neighbors grow corn of a poorer quality than I do.
This is because my crop will be exposed to pollen from my neighbors’ corn. On the other hand, if I cultivate corn of a higher grade than they do, then the quality of my own corn will continue to be superior. If I want the maize I grow to evolve into a desired variety, it is very necessary for me to lend a hand to the farmers next door in their efforts to grow high-quality corn.
Likewise, our lives are. Those who wish to live a life that is meaningful and productive must contribute to the improvement of the lives of others. This is because the value of one’s own life is proportionate to the number of other people whose lives it influences.
Those who want to live a life that is meaningful and productive must make a contribution to the betterment of the lives of others. Those who wish to live a life that is meaningful and productive must contribute to the enhancement of the lives of others if they want to achieve that goal for themselves.
Because everyone’s well-being is intricately intertwined with that of everyone else, those who make the conscious decision to pursue their own happiness also have the obligation to make the happiness of others a top priority in their own lives.
