Tragedy Strikes: Teenager Dies After Falling from Cliff
The untimely death of 17-year-old Zoe McKinney, who tragically fell from a cliff, has left many reflecting on the fragility of life and the desire to make different choices. Zoe, a high school senior and cheerleader, was enjoying a hike with friends on the Moab Rim Trail when the accident occurred, leading to her fatal fall.
A Devastating Accident
“She slipped and fell approximately 30 feet off of a sheer cliff face. Friends called 911 and attempted to find a way to get to the victim, but there was no safe way to do so,” the local police department stated.
Despite the immediate response from search and rescue personnel, EMS, and firefighters, Zoe’s injuries were fatal, and she was pronounced dead before reaching the hospital. Due to the challenging terrain, it took two hours for search and rescue teams to recover her body.
A Life Cut Short
Zoe’s boyfriend, Lloyd Gist, described their relationship as inseparable and emphasized her kindness and willingness to help others. The couple had been dating for nearly a year and were both seniors in high school. Reflecting on her character, Zoe’s close friend Iryss Mason spoke of her friend’s passion for assisting people and her pursuit of an EMT license.
A Community in Mourning
The Grand City School District released a statement following Zoe’s tragic passing, expressing their grief and commitment to supporting her family. The statement read, “The school community is grieving with Zoe’s family and will provide love and support in any way we can, including having therapists available at school on Monday. Zoe was a remarkable student, and we will honor her memory throughout the remainder of this senior year.”
