Miracle Moore, a fourth-grade student from Jennings, Missouri, unexpectedly helped her mother give birth to her sister when her mom went into labor three weeks early.
Moore dialed 911, and dispatcher Scott Stranghoener instructed her on how to assist her mother during delivery. Moore remained calm and followed Stranghoener’s instructions, even though she had never been in this position before.
Moore assisted her mother in lying down and laid towels behind her mother’s back for more comfort, and informed her mother and Stranghoener about the impending birth of her sister. Stranghoener instructed Moore on how to deliver the baby, and Jayla was born soon after. Moore carefully washed her sister’s face before wrapping her up, as instructed by Stranghoener.
The first responders from Christian Hospital Emergency Medical Services and North County Fire & Rescue arrived a few minutes later and took Moore, her mother, and Jayla to the hospital.
Moore was praised for her courage and quick thinking, and she received a certificate and gifts from North County Fire & Rescue, including a customized jersey, a tablet with educational games, a notepad, and a pink stork pin that represents the delivery of a baby. Moore was also awarded a certificate for her bravery by the Christian Hospital Emergency Medical Services.
Moore’s unexpected attempts to assist her mom during delivery were cause for rejoicing, and North County Fire & Rescue posted photographs of the celebration with a statement describing what occurred when the water broke at Fair. Netizens left supportive comments under their post.
Moore’s mother, Viola Fair, was amazed at how her eldest child helped her during delivery. Fair remembered being unable to pick Jayla, but seeing Moore wipe the baby’s face made her feel comforted. Fair also stated that her daughter was extremely helpful.
We wish Miracle Moore all the best in her future endeavors and hope she continues to make her mother proud.
