Whoopi Goldberg, the co-host of “The View” and a $17 million-per-year earner, will be sitting out for six weeks without pay after making another anti-Semitic comment to the London Times.
Goldberg seemingly took Hitler’s side by claiming he didn’t focus on black people, but instead on the Jewish people, whom he persecuted and killed, as new 24 reports.
When confronted about her comments, Goldberg minimized the plight of the Jewish people by stating that it’s not as easy to distinguish a Jew from a German as it is to point out a black person in Aryan Europe.
The mainstream news networks quickly picked up on the story, and Joe Barron, the head producer of the show, said they had to respond to the outrage. He added that punishing people whom Boomers dislike and do not watch can generate good publicity. Goldberg stands to lose approximately $6 million in salary and endorsements, including her contract with Sketchers, which could cost her close to $400 million.
Whoopi Goldberg made an anti-Semitic comment that caused her to lose six weeks’ pay and risk losing endorsements worth millions of dollars. Although Goldberg’s comments generated controversy, they also illustrate the dangers of making insensitive remarks, especially in a public forum.
